Production Update : January 2023
Hello Singing Tea Kettle Enthusiasts, a 24 kilogram package full of kettle bodies and parts just shipped to upstate New York for testing yesterday!
Where are we?
We have been waiting since October to receive and test new parts. This has taken longer than the typical 4-6 week cycle because of a covid outbreak at a factory, a covid outbreak for my engineering team and because I am not a big fish.
Not a Big Fish? What happened?
When starting out production it is important I find manufacturing partners large enough to have the technical expertise to make tight tolerance parts, but who are also small enough that my minimum order quantity of 300 units matters. It is a delicate balance. Since this project has taken so long and factories have received the lion's share of their payment I constantly have my feet held to the fire with high prices for minor modifications. I know some of you have questioned a. if the project is real b. why can't I just recreate the original. Yes, I can assure this is a real project. Feel free to call me to talk through it. Just send an email on the contact form and request a call. Here's a video of the October version running.
What's next?
Well the only thing from standing between us and this dream of a singing tea kettle is money. I've invested over two-hundred thousand into the project and am nearly at the finish line but to get to market quickly I need a. another large order lined up for factories to focus more on the project b. money for dedicated engineering resources at the factories. I am starting to work with a few people I think can help me piece together an investment to line up a significant order. This would allow me to dedicate 100% of my time to completing the project. Fortunately, travel to China just opened up again. I hope to camp out at factories in April should my job or the investment allow this.
Shipping date?
I do not have one. In the event this shipment of parts is performant (the pinning works without additional modifications and the parts are in tolerance) we can likely ship out the first beta units (5) in February. If not, we have to modify and do what I can to hurry up the iteration cycle of parts.
I am 100% confident this project will come to a successful completion this year and work on this project daily to make it happen. Thanks for hanging in there. Have a blessed day.
