Thanksgiving Update and What I'm Grateful For
Happy Thanksgiving Singing Tea Kettle Enthusiasts!
I am brimming with joy more bountiful than a harvest bowl filled with squash, gourds, and colored corn. Just an hour ago I receive news the tea kettle whistle pump works!
On the last batch of test parts the kettle would function in the test jig, but not in-situ of the kettle body with hot steam. Why? Heat expands and the FDA food-safe plastics would not move as smoothly as they otherwise should. Selecting plastics during reverse engineering was a very difficult process - especially given the two original samples having different plastics.
By switching away from a glass-filled polymer to PEI plastics there is less expansion of the part and the kettle whistles plays.
So what does this mean? Given the other kinks have to be worked out it is unlikely we will have more than a handful of kettles stateside for Christmas. The current modifications include changing the sealing gasket to improve fitment, and modifying the whistles to redirect steam away from the kettle handle, quality assurance and labs testing.
I am grateful for all of your support, feedback, networking and consideration. This project took the original team 3 years with 20 engineers to design. It has taken me 7+ years of resourcing and 2 years of dedicated focus and capital to get to this point. I am very proud of all of our efforts to bring such a joyous product into the world. Stay tuned and Happy Thanksgiving!
